this is my digital library, to showcase what i've been up to media-wise!!!

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield
Read: Early May
Genre: Cosmic horror
This book sparked me to get back into reading, I saw a video about it and pirated a PDF. I read it in a day, up until I was in the car going to work at my crappy job. I really liked the way the storylines came together.
Sister Maiden Monster by Lucy A. Snyder
Read: May 6 2024
Genre: Queer horror
I borrowed SMM from my digital library. God bless my digital library. I agree with a lot of the criticism regarding the pacing: it's a lot faster towards the end and gets kind of info-dumpy. Regardless, I enjoyed a lot of the gross bits and the characters, and by that I mean I found Savannah hot. Definitely a book for me.
Maeve Fly by CJ Leede
Read: May 5 2024
Genre: Horror/Slasher
This one was borrowed too. I needed to regress back to queer horror after this beacause the ending and Maeve's relationship with that one guy was so boring for me. But I liked a lot of the other details of her grandmother, and how the mundanity of Maeve's life interacted with and contrasted the brutality we saw. I think it was more focused on being gross/shocking than it was with some of the themes but that's what you get in a lot of extreme horror.
Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White
Read: May 10
Genre: Queer horror
I don't have a lot to say about this one, but it was good and I definitely want to reread it. I've seen a lot about this book and I think AJW is a really good writer. I liked the monster stuff and some of the side characters especially. I typically don't read books w/ male leads so it fell a bit flat for me on that front, just because of personal taste.
The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White
Read: May 7
Genre: Queer horror
I liked this one more than 'Hell Followed With Us,' the magic was interesting and I liked the plot. Silas' relationships and the other characters were really charming. The blend of magic and medicine was really neat. AJW's books have a lot of autistic characters and that resonates with me a lot as an autistic girl.
We Need to Do Something by Max Booth
Read: May 9
Genre: Horror/thriller
I really liked this one... the slow descent into chaos and the family dynamics (although Melissa's brother is so annoying.) Keeping the setting contained in one place is challenging but I think the story does it well.
